Yes, there is shuttle service from Tusayan to the Grand Canyon Visitor Center that runs seasonally! The National Park Service operates the Tusayan Route (also called the Purple Route) that provides free shuttle bus service between the NPS South Rim Visitor Center and the gateway community of Tusayan.

Requirements: Visitors must have a valid park pass, including lifetime or annual passes, to board the shuttle.

Pick-up Location: There is a pickup location at The Grand Hotel at The Grand Canyon across the street from Grand Canyon Hotel & Suites.

This shuttle service is designed to help visitors avoid the long lines and parking hassles at the Grand Canyon, especially during busy summer periods when wait times at the South Entrance Station can be up to two hours between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., and parking lots can reach capacity early.

Yes. An entrance fee (pass) is required to enter the Grand Canyon National Park. You are encouraged to purchase this before arriving to save time, but you may also purchase passes at any entrance station upon arrival. Fees and pass types, including costs, can be found here. All visitors, including guests of our lodges, must purchase a park pass from the National Park Service, which is not included in our lodging or tour reservations.

Tusayan is about 72 miles / 115 km from Flagstaff, Arizona and the drive is beautiful on highway 180 hugging the west side of the San Francisco Peaks, which is the highest mountain range in Arizona at over 12,000 feet in elevation.

Tusayan is closer at about 53 miles / 85 km from Williams, Arizona. You can also consider taking the historic Grand Canyon Railway into the park. There is also the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel next to the train depot.

Peak Season (Memorial Day through Labor Day): The Grand Canyon experiences its highest visitation during the summer months, with Memorial Day through Labor Day marking the traditional peak season. During this time, expect the largest crowds, longest wait times at viewpoints, and highest accommodation prices. Summer temperatures at the South Rim typically reach the 80s with afternoon thunderstorms, making it both the busiest and hottest time to visit. If you’re planning a summer trip, booking accommodations well in advance is essential, as hotels and vacation rentals fill up quickly and rates are at their premium.

Best Times to Visit & Off-Peak Seasons: The ideal times to visit the Grand Canyon are during the shoulder seasons of spring (March through May) and fall (September through November), when daytime temperatures are comfortable and crowds are significantly thinner. These periods offer the perfect balance of pleasant weather and better accommodation availability at more reasonable prices. Winter (December through February) represents the true off-peak season, featuring the lowest crowds and accommodation rates, though visitors should be prepared for cold weather and potential snow. While the North Rim closes during winter months, the South Rim remains open year-round, offering beautiful snow-covered canyon views for those willing to brave the cooler temperatures.

Summers are pleasant with temperatures ranging from 50°-80°F. If you venture down into the canyon the temperatures increase, sometimes exceeding over 100°F. The sun is powerful in high altitudes, so wearing hats and sunscreen is highly advised. Evenings are cool around 40°-50°F and wearing light jackets or sweaters is a good idea.

Winters are cold with temperatures between 40°-50°F or lower. We recommend you bring warm clothes and prepare for icy roads and trails, potential road closures and snow.

Spring and fall at Grand Canyon can be unpredictable. Generally, days are comfortably warm around 50°-60°F and the nights cooler. This time of year, can have some of the best weather for hiking.

We offer a variety of in-park tours including motorcoach tours, mule rides, and our historic railway! These tours start inside the Grand Canyon National Park. It is recommended to choose the Maswik Lodge as your pickup location if staying at the Grand Canyon Hotel & Suites as there is more available parking at that location. At the Grand Canyon, you can encounter any weather, in any season, so packing layers are essential year-round. You’ll also want sturdy footwear, sunscreen, and a refillable water bottle.

Yes! The hotel and all rooms is air conditioned. While it gets warm in the Grand Canyon region it’s usually about 20 to 30 degrees cooler than Phoenix or Las Vegas since the rim is at nearly 7,000 feet elevation.

There are fuel stations available in the town of Tusayan, approximately .3 miles from the Grand Canyon Hotel & Suites.

Your stay at the Grand Canyon Hotel & Suites includes a complimentary breakfast buffet. While the property does not feature a full-service dining facility, guests can enjoy a variety of dining options just across the street—approximately 0.2 miles away—at The Grand Hotel, which is owned and operated by Xanterra.

Yes, there is the Tusayan General Store in town right down the street from our hotel. The store has groceries, supplies and is even next to a Starbucks.

Cooking is not allowed in any guest rooms. This includes any self-heating meal or noodle bowl, which will set off our sensitive fire alarms. You could incur a substantial charge if you are found to be cooking in your room.

Cell service within the park is limited and can be spotty depending on your location. Check with your provider to verify coverage. During peak season, the number of users can overwhelm the system, making texting the most effective means of communication.

We do not feature laundry services at our hotel and there aren’t any public laundry facilities in Tusayan. There are options inside Grand Canyon National Park and you can find information on the National Park Service website.
